Election INFORMATION
HOW IT WORKS
The Rangers pick their hierarchy based on a democratic voting system. Rooster, the founder, decided this would be the best way to keep peace among the members of the community and give them a say in how things are done. Rooster doesn't believe in one ruler to lead them all, answering and obeying orders of a single dog until their death or someone usurps them. The democracy in the town brings everyone together so that decisions can be made as a whole. Positions are earned and rewarded to those who are outstanding in the community and have developed a good audience from the public by demonstrating moral and ethical character and general selflessness and sacrifice for the well-being of others. This keeps power struggles to a minimum and conflict down within The Rangers.
ELECTIONS
Elections are held every 3 OCC months. The current Mayor will call a town meeting, in which attendance is mandatory if you want voice heard or if you would like to be considered for a nomination.Once the current Mayor calls the meeting to order for elections, then nominations are taken from the group. One can nominate another or they can nominate themselves. Re-elections are common if you have made a positive impact on the community!
All high-ranking positions in the town and in law enforcement are up for nomination. Sheriff, Deputy, Captain, Lieutenant, Mayor, Assistant Mayor....any position in which only a single dog serves under. This distributes and redistributes power within the community.
If you are not re-elected or elected for a position, then you have the ability to shift your role in the community. EX: Most officers in law enforcement go back and become CLASS II Regulators or Rangers. Most town officials become Traders, Attorneys, or Citizens.
Once nominations have been gathered, then the community is given one week of ICC time to organize and come up with a campaign, in which they hold public forums for questions, to deliver their speech, and try to win the votes of the community. They also select a symbol for voting, which is used to mark a ballad and represent that unique candidate. An example is: a paw print or simple number or symbol that the voters can recreate on their own using cloth and simple ink.
After the week is up, the Mayor calls another meeting, in which voting takes place.
Every voter may cast a vote for each position and do so all at the same time. Every candidate will sport a unique symbol for every position and no two symbols will be alike to avoid confusion.
*In the event only one canine is nominated for a position, then they win the position by default. Canines cannot be nominated for more than a single position. This keeps voting neat and tidy, so try and pick the position you want. Example: You cannot run for both Mayor or Sheriff and you cannot run for both Sheriff and Deputy.
-In the event there are no retired canines to collect ballads, the citizens and Regulators will act in their stead. The voting is completely anonymous. It takes place on the very first floor of the Chateau and dogs enter the Mayor's office where cloth/paper and ink are available. They place their candidates' symbols in ink on the paper and fold it up.
Afterwards, they hand it to the ballad collectors on site. It is a punishable offense for looking at the ballads and breaking anonymity of a voter. If caught, anyone collecting ballads could be fined and sentenced to time in the Lodges.
Once all ballads have been collected, they are then taken to the Mayor who calls together a final meeting. At this meeting, the ballads are read and the reading witnessed before the community. Tallies are kept by the Mayor for each position and those with the highest tallies win that position!
**Voting can be roleplayed ICC and is encouraged, but polls will be placed in The Rangers subboards once election time rolls around.
It is then you can send your OCC votes for ICC characters to a created set of polls that can be found on the subboard and this is the same for nominations.
ICC nominations are great, but you can also nominate characters by sending their names and position you want to see them in to ripple .
Once I have all nominations, I will then create the polls. It will be up for one week of OCC time to correspond to ICC time, and the board in which the polls are located will be password protected so that only members who have a character in The Rangers can vote. ripple will send the password to the board to all members with characters in The Rangers. A poll for each position will be created and then you can cast your votes!
***DISCLAIMER:
While all positions within The Rangers are based on a democracy of voting and power/leadership may shift, ripple reserves all rights to the group and is to be consulted on major plots that new leadership may bring, whether it be a crooked Sheriff or embezzling Mayor, that might shift the dynamic and plot-flow of the community. Rooster is serving currently as Sheriff/Alpha, but in the event he is not voted in again, Rooster is still an integral part of the community and ripple will still be involved in the major maintenance, organization, and roleplay of the group. New leadership is a great thing, but those who may be elected as Sheriff or Mayor must keep Ripple in the loop about group happenings and work in conjunction with her. Ripple isn't afraid of a little turmoil or drama, but please run by new ideas for the group leadership by her first and gain her approval for plot ideas concerning the livelihood, well being, and status of The Rangers!
