THE ROLES OF THE RANGERS
LAW ENFORCEMENT
SHERIFF: The leader, the one who oversees that the rest of the law enforcement hierarchy are abiding by the law themselves and keeps order among them. The Sheriff is head among the enforcers and answers only to the Mayor of The Ranger's community, but both are of equal ranking and work closely together for the community. Duties: The Sheriff oversees the day-to-day training of all members of the law enforcement community and making sure community standards are upheld. The Sheriff is also responsible for escorting prisoners to and from the Lodges and attending court. The Sheriff organizes the patrols, stations, and protection of the Market on a daily basis. He investigates crimes and accusations and is commander of all on scene, holding rank.
DEPUTY: The second-in-command in the law enforcement section and carries out similar duties to the Sheriff, but the deputy does not have the freedom to organize patrols or stations unless otherwise authorized by the Sheriff. The Deputy may serve in the courts and escort prisoners under the Sheriff's word.
The Deputy is the support to the Sheriff and is responsible for organizing the protection of the community home. The Deputy usually maintains a station on the grounds of the Chateau.
CAPTAIN: Third-in-command in the law enforcement section. The Captain is responsible for training new recruits and educating the public and law enforcement alike on the laws of the community. The Captain does not usually appear in court unless the Captain has been named a witness. The Captain is responsible for investigating petty crimes within the community and takes public complaints for the Sheriff. The Captain is responsible for maintaining the Regulators and is often stationed to guard the Lodges, where prisoners are kept.
LIEUTENANT: Fourth-in-command and responsible for settling legal disputes within the community, usually disputes that are mild in nature and need only a mediator to settle. The Lieutenant also serves as public defender. The Lieutenant usually assists the Captain with their duties and are often shared. The Lieutenant is responsible for overseeing Rangers.
REGULATORS
CLASS II: Normal officers responsible for carrying out duties, patrols, and stations assigned to them by the Sheriff and Deputy. Class II are seasoned, experienced Regulators and are often responsible for training Class I regulators in the field, using a partner system. CLASS I: Newly-recruited Regulators that are still under-going training by Class II Regulators. These are the rookies, the newbies. Most Class I Regulators are placed under a probational period until cleared by their Class II Regulator partners as competent and even-tempered for the job. They are promoted to Class II once declared experienced and trusted by the Deputy or Sheriff.
*All ranks above this point have the authority to make arrests.
RANGERS: Rangers do not carry the ability to make arrests, but they are essential to the community by carrying out territory patrols. They bring in new members to the community and keep check of territory resources and make their reports to the Lieutenant. Rangers also scope out territory beyond the homeland and look for dogs who are in need of assistance.
THE COMMUNITY.
Mayor: The face the community looks up to and the overseer of the business aspect of the community who keeps track of revenue, supplies had, supplies needed, and uses diplomacy to solve community issues. The Mayor is responsible for conducting meetings, organizing community events, and preserving the laws of the land by setting an example for the members. The Mayor deals directly with outside parties with whom The Rangers will trade or otherwise do business with. The Mayor keeps a check on the Law Enforcement side while Law Enforcement keeps a check on the Mayor, creating a balance of power between the two factions of the community.
Assistant Mayor: The right-hand to the Mayor who has similar responsibilities while also providing great counsel to the Mayor. The Assistant Mayor is charged with making sure the community is aware of town meetings and are attending certain community events that the Mayor has organized. The Assistant Mayor is also conditioned and poised to take the current Mayor's place should anything happen and while act as Mayor until an election can be held.
Traders: Any dog have the desire to contribute their works to the Market for the benefit of the community. The Traders often exchange goods among the community, each other, and with outside parties at the Market. Traders often specialize in a specific area and sells/trades those goods as such. Any trade is welcomed in The Rangers, but here are the current common trades: Rock Collectors, Winemakers, Hide Sellers, Human Trinket Barters, Plant Vendors, Attorney Consultations, Cured Meat Sellers.
Gardeners: Dogs who enjoy working in the outdoors and have a penchant for physical labor. Gardeners tend to the vineyard and wildflower/food plants that grow on the Chateau's property. They dig/harvest plants and tend to the plants so that they will return again in the future (watering, weeding, fertilizing, etc). The Gardeners often exchange plants with the Traders, but the Gardeners are allowed to take as many food plants as they want for working in the Garden. They are also entitled to a free bottle of wine at the end of every week as payment for collecting grapes for the Winemakers.
Healers: Dogs who utilize the wild plants that grow in the garden to tend to the needs of the sick and the injured. They often make medicines, distribute treatments, and care for the ill/injured.
Market Manager: The Market Manager is a single position and is responsible for making sure that no illegal goods are being sold on the premises. Illegal goods include weaponry, illicit drugs, and poisons. The Market Managers are also responsible for overseeing the daily intake of prey by hunters.
Hunters: Members of the community who specialize in collecting food for the community. Hunters are free to organize themselves as a unit or single and alone. Hunters are allowed to eat first and often trade hides to the Traders for wine and other items that make them happy. Hunters report their catches to the Market Manager, to make sure that no game is being smuggled or hoarded from the community.
Citizens: Citizens are members of the community who have randomly assorted tasks to help contribute to the community. Many of these tasks are: working at the barn taking care of animals being kept to raise for food and needed items. Many repairs to the property are done by citizens who are capable and citizens often help healers by gathering things like rags, water, and cobwebs. They also help the hunters by hauling in game. Citizens offer their help when needed and often keep the Chateau clean as well. Citizens are dogs who are still physically equipped but need light work to accommodate themselves.
Retired (Town Counsel): Retired members of the community are dogs who cannot contribute physically to the community and are beyond 10 years of age, but can offer advice to the Mayor via town meetings. They share their wisdom and often lead elections. They are responsible for collecting ballads, taking nominations, and making sure that community involvement is number one at meetings. These are your political canines and they can often be found working community events.
Attorneys: While the Lieutenant serves as default public defender, Attorneys are often coveted in The Rangers. Attorneys are hired by individuals facing court/trial and can charge whatever fees they like within reason, if they do not like the public defender appointed to their case. Attorneys are skilled with words, clever, and able to comprehend the law. Attorneys can be independent or work together and set up offices within the Chateau. The offer consultations and must keep client-attorney privilege. Attorneys have little regulation...but this makes them vulnerable to scrutiny by Law Enforcement.
