Despite having been in the area for a few weeks, the adolescent had yet to venture into town. Today would be no different then the last dozen. She would explore, scavenge and collect items of interest and value (to her at least) but she would not go into town- not yet. The youth was smart enough to know that her chances of running into a gang of dogs was more likely to happen in town than it was on the outskirts and in the mountains. She’d searched the prison…well she was interrupted but she’d been there. She had spent over a week in the hospital but the rat population was beginning to dwindle. It was time to move on. Thus, her reason for ambling about now, it was time to find a new place to call her temporary home.
The husky mix had seen the towering building from a distance. It stood as regal and noble as it had back when humans occupied it…well…it was a little worse for ware but it was better than the Prison as far as outward appearance. She now approached the majestic building with a confident stride and an alert countenance. Her ears were forward, her head up and her eyes scanned the area for signs of danger. A pouch full of something bounced against her leg causing a soft clatter, it contained the more interesting or valuable of items she’d scavenged from the hospital- the rest she had to leave behind..hidden in a hole and covered with some light rubble until she could go back and get it.
Raziri paused at the entrance before pushing the old, wooden door ajar. It creaked and moaned but it gave way, giving her the first view of the vast mansion. It was open and spacious and unlike the outside it was in superb condition. A layer of plastic covered some of the furniture, a thick layer of dust covered everything but she ignored that. Trinkets of all kinds could still be found and used. Excited, she moved forward- pausing to nudge the door so it was barely open. At least then she would know if anyone else showed up after her.
The adolescent, in her excitement, did not explore the entire house to check for other occupants- she went straight to the room that would have been the study. Books clung to shelves and paper could be seen scattered on the floor. The desk had objects on top of it and it was these that she busied herself with. Carefully, she took the pouch off by lowering the front half of her body and then shifting backwards so the strap would slip over her head and to the ground. Afterwards, she jumped up so her fore paws were on the desk; carefully she inspected the items she saw. Nudging a penholder so it toppled over and spilled its contents.
