Elizabeth walked carefully down the street, ears pricked for any sign of life. While not unaccustomed to the lack of humans, she didn't expect it in this town, so far away from where she'd grown up. The tricolor female stopped in the middle of the street, taking a moment to look around. A gust of wind kicked up, blowing a piece of paper around. The noise of the paper spooked her and she jumped. Realizing the source of the noise, she let out a nervous giggle. Silly her.
Maybe this quaint little town would be her new home. So vastly different than the city she grew up in, always changing with the ever-shifting number of packs. She'd had enough of pack politics for the time being. It would be nice to finally settle down in some place.
The noise of something scuffling around caught her ears and she spun in its direction. Tail wagging, she stalked towards it. She wasn't hungry, but maybe it would provide a good chase. Even at two years old, she sometimes still had the mind of a pup. The creature poked its head up behind some bushes and she let out an excited bark. The rabbit took off and the girl sped off after it.
While the retriever mix was fast, the rabbit was ultimately faster. Every time she got close enough to lunge for it, the creature would move even faster. The rabbit darted into its hole and Elizabeth couldn't resist sticking her muzzle in the hole, even though she knew it wouldn't do any good. She barked once more and backed up, tail still wagging. Tongue lolling, she looked around, wondering what to do next.

This town was quiet and suited the bachelor. His nature was a persistent meanness that dominated over most of his life and interaction . The quiet was well quiet, not the anxiety inducing warble of others. His long legs carried him easily, swinging on autopilot on his destination to nowhere. When a breeze blew past him carrying a young lass with it.
He swirled quickly and watched as she raced after a rabbit. Her legs however could do her no justice and she fell short of the hare. He caught himself chuckling at her gusto as she shoved her head down the hole after her prize. He trotted over to her, something carried him away from his normal reserve, although not by much.
"Shame your legs weren't a tad longer. You would have caught that wily rabbit."He teased gently, his voice soft and harmonious and tinged with the staccato of the male. He cocked his head softly and let his Amber orbs peer over the stranger. A strangely bold move for him and something anyone would sense was...forward of him

Elizabeth was so focused on the rabbit, and then figuring out what next, that she didn't realize there was anyone else nearby. She probably would've smelled before he approached her, but when you had a one track mind...
The male's words caught her attention and she turned to face him, the rabbit promptly forgotten. Then again the creature was probably long gone considering rabbits had homes with numerous tunnels. Her tail's wagging slowed, uncertain of what he wanted. She studied him warily, not knowing him and not sure if she wanted to. It'd been a bit too long since she'd been in the company of others. He didn't seem much of a threat, but one could never be too careful.
She realized that she'd be ignoring him if she didn't respond. And that would be rude, which would not be good. Her mother had taught her better than that. Besides, maybe he just wanted to talk. "I would like it if my legs were longer." She replied. "It's not so fun when you can't catch a rabbit. I mean, I can catch them, just not usually when I'm chasing after them. I wasn't trying to catch it though. I just wanted to chase it. 'Cause you know, chasing things can be fun sometimes."
Her tail resumed its regular speed as she smiled. She didn't trust him, but she also didn't want to seem like she was cold-hearted. It was too much of a nice day for that. "I'm Elizabeth. What's your name?"

He backed a couple of paces away, introducing personal space to the both of them. He realized he might of startled her and instantly felt apologetic for making her feel threatened. He lowered his head and let his tail go flaccid between his legs. Trying to make himself as amicable as possible.
"I'm sure you're great at catching rabbits. Sometimes the chase is just good fun." Warpaint responded, a genuine sincerity laced his words. His new arrival in Graycott had left him lonely. More than usual , and it seemed subconsciously he had begun run to yearn for companionship.
He eased onto his well muscled haunches and yawned gently. His brilliant gold eyes flashed in the daylight. He caught her name on his bat ears. Elizabeth, the sensible, soft name suited her. "Well met, Miss Elizabeth. Warpaint at your service, or just Paint." He dipped his head in a formal greeting and flashed a quick smile.
" So Miss Elizabeth, are you new around here?" He gave a quick glance around before peering back at her. "I myself am new here. I hope I'm not being too forward, but would you care to explore together? I'm sure there's safety in numbers." He waited patiently for her answer, taking the time to look at his surroundings.

Relief flooded through her as the male took a step back. She didn't mind company, but obviously there was a limit as to how close one should get when they just met someone. She couldn't help but smile at his introduction. "It's nice to meet you. That's a very interesting name. I like it." Much better than her own name, which sounded plain, and not interesting at all. But it was what her mother gave her, so she didn't think it would be very nice to change it. Obviously her mother thought it was a nice enough name to give to her daughter.
“I just got here recently, maybe a day? So yeah, I’m new around here. This place is pretty quiet. I kind of expected it to be different. More noisy, I suppose. I mean, where I came from, there were always dogs coming and going. It’s kinda silly, I suppose, to think that every place would be the same,” she replied. “I mean, not every place can be the same. That would be boring. Imagine if you go to a new place, and it’s the same as the next one. Where would be the fun in that?” She hoped that she wasn’t being annoying with her chatter. More than once, her siblings would pile up on her once they got too annoyed with her constant chattering. It didn’t always work, much to their dismay. “Where are you from?”
She paused, thinking over his question. Would it be safe, to go exploring with this stranger? He was right, that they might be safer in numbers, but she didn’t know him. Then again, she was lonely, and far away from home. It would be nice to get to know at least one dog here.
“I’d like that. It would be fun to explore with someone. I haven't really been able to talk to anyone recently, and sorry if I'm talking too much. Mom always did say that I could talk someone's ears off." She smiled at him.

A small smile touched Paints black lips as Miss Elizabeth rambled on. She was friendly enough and Paint listened quietly, his expression attentive and amicable. She liked his name and Paint blushed slightly. It had taken years for him to come around to liking it. It wasn't typical and he had often been teased for it. But over the years it had come to suit him.
" I agree, it is quite quiet here. I kind of like it but at the same time it gets a little lonely ." He answered softly, his voice a quiet thrum, like strings on a guitar. "You're right. Adventures always wait in new places, so change can't be too bad." He gave a big grin and shook out his pelt.
Then she asked where he was from. His eyes flashed with a sadness for a brief moment before shining bright again. "I'm from a little place called NewWaif, it's about a week from here. My siblings recently went off on their own so I've just been wandering. But this place seems to suit me well enough." Warpaint missed his siblings dearly but they had all found a place or mate to settle down with. He understood mostly but something in him pushed him away from that course at the moment.
Warpaint chuckled when she said her mother commented that she talked too much. He didn't mind it, in fact his own quiet nature enjoyed it. He was painfully shy at times and when others spoke it eased the burden of socializing greatly. "Oh, don't worry Miss Elizabeth, I've got big ears.. I can keep up just fine." A hearty warmth radiated out through his statement.
Standing up, he shook himself out in the sunlight. "I saw some two legger buildings that way, maybe they have some trinkets that could be of use to us. If not , it can't hurt to explore." He titled his head and gestured for her to lead. He was happy to follow.

Elizabeth’s ears dropped back slightly when he mentioned his siblings. At least he’d recently seen his siblings, unlike her, who hadn’t seen them in a year. She had no idea if they were still alive, or if they’d too left home. But that was her fault, she had to admit. She was the one who chose to leave home, the one who just couldn’t wait to explore everything beyond her small town. But she also didn’t have anyone to tell her what and what not to do either. She wasn’t quite sure if that was a fair trade-off or not. "I'm not quite sure where my siblings went. I haven't seen them in a long time." She paused for a moment before continuing on, her tone taking on a brighter tone. She didn't want to think about sad things like that right now. "But maybe I'll see them again someday! I mean, you never know."
He mentioned a town called NewWaif. She tilted her head, trying to remember if she’d passed through there or not. Then again, she couldn’t remember which way she’d come from, and she had a horrible sense of direction regardless. How many times had she snuck out of her puphood home and gotten lost? Too many times to count, at least. "Don't think I've ever been there," she commented. "It sounds nice though. Back home, it's not so nice. There's a bunch of packs there and they're always fighting. I suppose that's one good thing about being on your own: you don't have to deal with that. It was nice being with Mom and my siblings though. But everyone's gotta set off on their own, and that's what I did." She couldn't help but end her statement with a nod. She still wasn't entirely confident about her decision to leave, but she could at least act like she was.
At least he didn't seem to mind her chattering, which was a relief. She didn't really want to scare away the only company she had, even if they'd just met. Her eyes couldn't help but travel upward to his ears as he mentioned them. He does have big ears, she thought, though she was too polite to agree. Bet he can hear really well.
Her own ears pricked forward as he said something about buildings. Exploring them did sound like fun. "That sounds like fun!" She replied, bounding ahead of him, her tail wagging excitedly. "I have to say, I've never been inside a two-legger building. Mom always warned us to not go near them." Then again, she did have a hard time following the rules her mother set out for them. And her mother never said anything about not going near them when you had company. Not to mention, she hadn't seen any humans around so it must be safe to explore.

And she was off in a glorious unchecked blanket of excitement. Warpaint bounded after her, long legs easily matching her stride and bringing him abreast her. His tongue lolled out of his mouth as his anxiety eased. Paint was slowly becoming able to let down his gates and pour tiny pieces of himself out into the open. His golden orbs scanned the rows of houses before, analyzing the possible adventures awaiting.
One particular house seemed in better repair than the others, its blue paint wasn’t as sad looking as the other already graying homes. Warpaint was inclined to this particular house, it didn't seem as daunting and ominous as the others. ”Hey, that one doesn’t look to bad..” He bound ahead of Miss Elizabeth and stopped short at the picket fence surrounding the yard.
Rocking back onto his haunches, he inspected the gate. It took a few tries of nudging before he was able to unhinge the rusting clasp. The gate swung wide, as if beckoning them in. Lowering himself back to all fours, he dipped his head towards his companion. ”Ladies first.” Warpaint uttered sweetly, flashing his eyes in a genuine smile.
He suddenly grew eager to see what those city canines had been enjoying all along. He had heard of pets and their plush lives. And now with temptation before him, his curiosity was burning unchecked.
----- Gonna find all the things XD
