Cécile licked the bloody piece of cartilage from the rabbit she'd caught, and then absentmindedly drew it between her teeth and sucked out the marrow from the bone behind it. Her white paws had taken on a pink look from the blood that leaked out of the body held in place between her forelegs. The thick grass under her belly cooled off the heat of the hunt from her muscles, and she was enjoying her meal quite thoroughly until her eyes had caught something strange on one of the trees before her.
The bark of the pine appeared to have been scratched out by something most sharp. Angry gouges had been made, so that only the pale lignin structures beneath jutted starkly out. Potentially a tool had been used to produce this mess, and it had been done not long ago, judging by the strips and chips of mutilated bark littering the ground amid the tree's shed orange needles. There was perhaps a meaningful shape suggested in the carving, some sort of symbol or direction or fragment of coded dialogue, and Cécile pondered this in idle curiosity as she ate.
OOC: I have no defined plans behind this carving, so feel free to assign it one, if you'd like to explore that in this thread. Otherwise, the meaning and origin of it could be discovered as it progresses, and created based off of my own thoughts and yours.

Oh, the look was in her eyes. You never know what might be found there. ● ● ● ● but she was dancing all in time, the moves she made so fine, like the music that surrounds her. The forest had its attractions, ones that were hard to ignore if you were made up of primal stuff. The shimmering sunlight penetrated the leafy canopy and a dappled path was laid out for the Irish setter, her brown eyes delighting in the mosaic it seemed to paint. Her pace was unhurried and calm and she was merely enjoying the scenery. Juniper felt a slight complaint from her stomach, but hadn't she just eaten not three hours ago? A tasty squirrel she had managed to catch off-guard, stuffing his fat gray body with a bumper crop of summer-toned acorns? It wasn't the result of true hunger, but a light scent of fresh-kill was lingering in the soft breeze. It caught the red and white dog's attention, her ears perking and nose twitching slightly. She was good-natured, so she did not see this as an opportunity to take from another. It only meant she was not alone out here. She just hoped the hunter was of her own kind and not ill-tempered. She did not mesh well with those who were quick to anger or easy to upset. They made her a nervous wreck, filling her with their red and black sparks of negativity. But there didn't seem to anything negative pervading the air. It was simply a mysterious sort of attraction, a gentle pull to seek out who was enjoying a pleasant picnic in the forest. Cautiously Juniper proceeded, her paw steps lightly padding through the emerald grasses. Her tail was swaying gently, carried low to exhibit that she was merely a friendly face. The female form came slowly into her a view, a serene creature grappling a rabbit as she took pleasure in relieving the lifeless body of its precious nutrition. The setter paused, maintaining a respectable distance. With a little flutter of nervousness in her stomach, Juniper managed to form a gentle smile across her lips as she gave an announcing hail,"Hello!" She tried to sound more happy than anything else, but it was hard to miss that slightly waver of uncertainty. She was a social butterfly at heart, but on initial meeting Junie could be quite hesitant. Her eyes lingered on the face of the strange female and Juniper followed the other's gaze, which was oriented to a pine tree. It was a curious site, to see a pine tree robbed of its protective covering. The soft, white wood beneath was splintered around the edges, but on the inside it appeared as if something had tried to carve a shape. It was interesting to see such a thing. It was natural for animals to sharpen claws or mark their territory by stripping bark, but this tree seemed to be deliberately used, a canvas by an artist.Juniper did not wait for a response before the question tumbled from her mouth,"Wow, that is interesting. Did you make that?"ravelin525 notes: Oh, such an interesting tree c: MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

The scent of the approaching dog was lost on Cécile. Her nose was in fact so bloodied by her meal that she could hardly smell anything but for the earthly and someone macabre cocktail of fragrances made from blood, rabbit, and the wildflowers, mud, and grass that she laid upon. In the end, it was the casual thump of feet and the quick, chirpy "Hello!" that infomed Cécile of her intruder.
The white dog jumped, her tail whipping up and disrupting some of the soil and mud enough to splash it up on the backs of Cécile's ankles. She pivoted swiftly on her heels to face the stranger.
Cécile shook out her fur and eyed the other dog with open wariness, letting the other talk first. She noted the distance that the other dog had left between them, and was satisfied and appreciative of it.
"And what if I did?" Cécile asked coolly.
The pitt mix didn't take her eyes off of the stranger, but gestured with her chin back towards the marked tree. "Would you know what it meant, or what I'd use to make it?" Was the stranger playing her? Maybe they knew more than they were letting on.

Oh, the look was in her eyes. You never know what might be found there. ● ● ● ● but she was dancing all in time, the moves she made so fine, like the music that surrounds her. Juniper was surprised when the stranger whirled on nimble heels to face her. The red and white setter immediately felt a little nervous by the reaction her chirping voice had garnered. Though she had left a good distance between herself and the other female, she still couldn't help but to wag her tail slightly in a sign of gentle appeasement. The pit mix had turned so fast and forcefully that she sent some dirt along the length of her hind-legs. Juniper felt a stirring of anxiety in her stomach. What if the stranger was angry with her because she had startled her during a good meal? But Junie's brown eyes noted the gore splashed across the female's mouth and throat, a bloodied bib that added more to the disheveled and messy look of the stranger. Juniper herself always fancied a neat and tidy coat, but honestly, who time for hygiene out here in the wildness of the wood? As if to answer this, the mostly white dog shook her coat free of the majority of the debris clinging to her. For a moment, Juniper felt her own caution creeping up. She was sensitive to others and did not miss the wariness brewing behind the other girl's eyes. She was relieved to find that there was an absence of anger. The setter was then wondering if she should perhaps just go back the way she came, through the dappled woods and leave this female to her meal, but her question did not go without answer. The bloodied mouth of the stranger was moving, and much to Juniper's confusion, her question was answered with another question. It was puzzling, almost like a riddle, the way the stranger had phrased it. Her tone was surprisingly cool, like the first fog on a spring morning. She didn't seem hostile nor disgusted, but continued to ask another string of questions which caused Juniper's brow to furrow. Was this a riddle? So what if I did. Well, Juniper didn't know how to react. If she did, then that was wonderful. Perhaps this canine was talented more so than the Irish setter. Juniper noticed the other female did not take her eyes off the friendly newcomer, but they did shift to indicate the hollow in the tree where some arcane symbol was nested."Well," Juniper felt her voice slip from between her lips like a timid moth in the lapse of silence that followed the stranger's questions,"If you did...I don't have anything negative to say about it. It looks quite interesting and if you did, you must be very talented." She felt her gently swaying tail halt. Her ears laid back a little against her head. "It might denote territory. I know other big animals sometimes claw trees and rub on them, but I sincerely hope I'm not trespassing," her brown eyes grew wide with the thought. What if she was trespassing? Would she end up like that rabbit?"Maybe you...used rabbit bone?" Her voice was gaining an upward inflection, a note of anxiety that showed just how distressed she was beginning to feel about it, unable to shake off the thought that perhaps this did signify the stranger's home turf. She was also taking painful stabs at the truth but feeling no real conviction in her answers.
