Annie trotted along the sand, tail waggging as she passed tidal pools. There was nothing better than the smell of the ocean, she decided. It was far better than the forests, and most certainly better than being in a town. But she had to admit that it was nice to walk amongst the trees, even if sometimes it did get dark depending on how close together the trees were. The salty air, though... It called to her, luring her to frolic in it. The mix of water-loving retrievers in her longed to jump into the water. But she was content to just walk along the beach, to seek out whatever there was to see. Then she could play in the water.
The golden female's attention was captured as a crab walked across the sand. With a bark, she lunged towards it, sand flying from beneath her paws. She didn't land on it, since the poor creature didn't deserve that. It was just trying to get to wherever it was going. Besides, she didn't particularly want to find out what it tasted like. Some other adventurous dog could do that. She landed near it, tail wagging, nose inches away from its claws. The fact that there was a large, barking creature didn't seem to bother the crab. It just continued on towards its home and the girl followed it, curious about where it was going.
The crab scuttled into its hole and Annie stood over it, staring at the hole. Her tail curled over her back as she wagged it, as much as she hated her tail. Her brother didn't have a curly tail, so why did she? Back to the crab though, since there was no use in thinking about lost family members. What a strange creature. Why would it ever want to live in a hole when it could spend its life in the sun? Didn't it wonder what else there was beyond the beach?
