With the law, comes order. Here in The Rangers, justice is served by a jury peers presided over by a judge. Courts are official or civil in nature, settling everything from murder charges to community disputes. Anyone who wishes that fairness be implied when a compromise cannot be reach can call upon the community for a court hearing, where you can make your appeals. Attorneys are a trade kept by The Rangers, so if you don't like the free public defender we have provided (Lieutenant of LE), you may hire outside counsel at your own discretion. HOW IT WORKS There are two divisions of court, official and civil.
CIVIL COURT- A court called upon by members of the community who have mild to moderate complaints and need mediators to settle disputes that cannot be compromised on by normal talk.
Civil court can occur if a member feels they were not paid fairly for a service or were not given adequate compensation by Trader parties. An example would be a Hunter who feels like the Hide Makers didn't give him a fair cut of the profits for his contribution to their business, or if a Winemaker was not given the correct order amount of grapes by the Gardeners. Civil courts deal largely with business practices within the community and are often financial in nature. Civil court can also occur in terms of paternity/maternity. Any parent who seeks a right to their children but are denied by the other parent visitation can call upon the court and have an elected judge and jury preside over the case. *Most civil court cases require you hire outside counsel for making your case, as the public defender is only assigned in Official court.
But you can be served to show in court if a suit has been filed against you by another party, in which case the public defender will be assigned to your case. If you are served to come to court and fail to attend, then the party that does not show is immediately issued an ARREST WARRANT. Upon discovery by law enforcement officials, the charges for evading court is 1 week of ICC in the Lodges performing physical labor.
Filing a suit or filing a civil court hearing can done by using the application below. If you want to submit a suit/civil hearing, then please reply to this thread with the form filled out and a judge and jury will be assigned to your case, where you can then roleplay out the court hearing.
OFFICIAL COURT (CRIMINAL COURT)- Those who have been arrested are held in the Lodges until a court date can be settled. Once criminals have been made aware of the charges being filed against them, they'll have the option to accept the public defender or be given a list of available attorneys who might take their case (if compensation is available for attorney services). Official court cannot be filed, since those who are arrested are subjected to court, where they will either be found guilty of the charges or cleared. Official Court is usually called to order two days after an arrest has been made. COURT PROCEEDINGS FOR CRIMINAL OFFENSE- Evidence is usually gathered based on eye-witness accounts, testimony, and officer accounts of the scene. Usually crimes are witnessed or reported, and investigating officers usually use their judgement to decide if an arrest is warranted if they did not witness the crime themselves. Things like foot-prints, teeth marks, wounds, weapons, drugs, etc. are gathered for use by LE officials to present in court. Of course, dogs acting as humans could stretch the line of realism, so hearsay and circumstantial evidence are admissible in the courts of The Rangers. Witnesses are very important and officer testimony is highly regarded. Character witnesses are also very important, to cover both officers and defendants. SELECTION OF THE JURY AND JUDGE
So jury-duty is a thing here at The Rangers, and anyone of any rank can be called upon in the community to serve on the jury. The judges of these proceedings are also called upon, but Judges are selected from your high-ranking officials and Class II Regulators. When a civil or criminal court case is about to take place, ripple will open up a plot page in the Plot Mosh section of the boards where Ranger-members can sign up to serve on the jury or be a judge! Once the positions have been filled then the thread can start!
*judges and jury cannot be fulfilled by characters involved in the case (witnesses, defendants, officers on scene, etc.) They have to be completely un-involved from the case to use their best judgement. OUTCOMES AND CONVICTIONS- While the Judge and jury have the final decision in the courts, most legal roleplay here within The Rangers should be predetermined and the outcome plotted out beforehand. If you want your fate to rest entirely in the hands of the court, then an odds system for innocence or guilt can be called upon.
If you use the odds system, then make sure your evidence is sharp and your argument convincing! Civil courts are best used under the odds system, while criminal courts are best used with pre-plotted outcomes and Staff-judging. This way, you be represented fairly in your court hearings but have plenty of opportunity for interaction, inspiration, and creativity!
Judged fights work the same way, where you can tag a staff member (ripple , WarPaint , or Scotia ) and a success or fail can be determined by odds or by the quality of your posts, with an emphasis on the argument you presented (judged by creativity, grammar, eloquence, etc). Convictions and sentencing for crimes can be found here .CIVIL JURY- 2 MEMBERS OF THE JURY, ONE JUDGE OR ONE JUDGE AND NO JURY FOR MINOR CIVIL DISPUTES.CRIMINAL JURY- 4 MEMBERS OF THE JURY, ONE JUDGE MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

"So if you see me walkin’ all alone, Don’t look back, I’m just on my way back home." Rooster met the combative male with nothing more than a nod, managing to grunt roughly in the back of his throat in response to the Northern dog's slightly insulting insinuation that Rooster actually rolled around with the bison. He would not dare give this white trouble-maker the satisfaction of seeing how much that irked him, but he also wouldn't give him the pleasure of hearing the mottled dog's recollections, either. It would be a waste of good memory and a waste of a good story on deaf ears like his. But the unrest from the bison was growing and with it, Rooster was growing more and more concerned. Hadn't this guy listened to him at all? Heeded the caution he was trying to project?
Perhaps he was, because finally those icy eyes were seeing what Rooster's own golden brown ones were. Still, he continued to call Rooster Johnny Boy, but the cattledog did not have time to build fury at such a petty act of conduct. He was getting distracted himself, his eyes trying to flicker quickly between the dog and the herd. He had warned the other dog not to move suddenly, and for a moment Rooster had hope he would be able to leave here unscathed.
That hope was shattered when the white dog went charging like a kamikaze into the midst of the herd, once more throwing himself into danger with reckless abandon. Rooster was horrified, but sadly, not shocked as the idiot went on the attack. Already, this defiant creature was beginning to grow predictable. It was foolish, running in and clamping down on the bull's nose. The cattledog had seen quite enough and knew that whatever tentative truce between the dogs and the herd was now shattered, That was a first strike, the first offense after trying to assault a calf.
And it would be the white dog's last one. Rooster gained his feet, quickly putting some distance between himself and the herd as the white bullet streaked back to momentary safety. Rooster could feel adrenaline beginning to spike, coursing throughout his body in preparation for whatever repercussions the herd was about to deliver.
The crazy white beast was coming back to join Rooster, but already Rooster had a few feet ahead of the crazy asshole. He was talking, actually laughing, pleased with what he had done. Rooster narrowed his eyes at the other dog, a growl beginning to rise in his throat. He was such a child, his manner so juvenile that he made Rooster feel over a hundred in years. "You half-wit, motherfu-," the angry retort to his behavior was cut short, because the word 'stampede' really brought Rooster back into reality. Like a flash, the moron dog blazed passed him. The herd had now gained motion, a deep thunderous echo was beginning to fill Rooster's ears. They were gaining momentum and their warpath was lined with both Rooster and the fleeing Korvette. The old instincts were coming back and Rooster knew it would be a mistake to join the white dog in a flat-pursuit. He thought he was clever and funny, but this herd was angry and the bull was leading the charge. Rooster took one glance at the bull and could see the rage boiling in those bovine depths. That bull wanted the white dog and was not about to let him slip away. With a graceful turn, Rooster started a low sprint and aimed his direction toward the cattle, instead of away from them. He was swift, rushing low to the ground and swinging a wide crescent path around the herd. He needed to get behind them. He could smell their scent and feel the thunderous vibrations of their charge, his face alert and focused. He noticed that even though he himself was coming back to the herd in a closer proximity, the lead bull was paying the red and white cattledog no attention. He wanted the white streak, the twice aggressor. Oh shit, that bull wants to kill that moron. For half a second, Rooster was tempted. The herd hadn't cared that he was swinging a wide arch around them- they were focused on the flat run that was taking place, charging after the petulant pup, and Rooster almost broke away and retreated to safety to watch how the bullet handled himself then. He thought being trampled was a pretty good lesson for this arrogant fool to learn, but Rooster also knew that in his heart he couldn't let that happen. Once a stampede was initiated, it was hard to stop. Their target, they'd pursue. If they caught him, they'd stomp and gore him to death. With a muttered curse under his breath, Rooster pulled his curving path of motion tighter, hugging close to the rough circle the bison had already formed for themselves. He wheeled with ease and practice, turning sharply to run up behind the herd. He snapped at the hocks of the cows in the back, commanding they pay attention to him. He dropped back just as one cow kicked back. A bleat and a snort, then half the herd was aware of the aggressor in the back.Quickly, Rooster closed the distance again, snapping and darting sharply to the right. He wanted to move the group to the left, to turn them off their course so the white idiot could have a clean getaway. The cows aggressively snorted, wailing that he stop his attack. Putting on a burst of speed, Rooster managed to run parallel to the bison running in the middle and again he snapped, going close to the ankle. He began a series of furious barks, drawing more and more attention to himself. He drove them with his snapping mouth, urging them to turn direction. But the bull was still at the lead, and while the cows wanting to break and escape Rooster's gaping mouth, the cattledog knew that would never happen unless he intercepted their leader.Pumping his legs as fast as they would carry him, the cattledog felt every fiber in his body heat up intensely. He could feel pain in his sides has his breath began to come up ragged, but he was gaining on the lead and was not apt to just give up. That old cattledog blood was pulsing through him and he would finish this drive, no matter the cost. Like a rocket, Rooster drove himself to the front, his legs extending impressively for one of his compact size. The bull was now four feet from him, charging down on the white creature who was leading this chaos. They were gaining on the interloper, five feet between goring horns and soft dog flesh. With a wild roll of his eyes, Rooster closed the distance, leaping to the left and snapping his foaming mouth at the bull's hocks. The sudden intrusion on his charge was not welcomed, and the male bison let loose a furious roar from his throat, swinging his head to meet Rooster with one defined horn. Rooster was barking, loud and aggressively, nimbly avoiding the horn by weaving in a serpentine motion and darting closer and further away from the mass, taking the moments when the bull lifted his head to dive back in and snap at those ankles. It took a few more feet of doing this before the bull grew infuriated by Rooster's constant snapping at his legs before he swung right, charging for Rooster and bringing the path of the herd with him and away from the fleeing idiot. The cattledog felt dread sink his heart. He wanted to move them left, but now they'd go right. Rooster had gained their attention and needed to lead them, but it wasn't ideal. To move the herd to his will, he needed to be in the back and on the sides. But, he had saved the sorry hide of the damn idiot in front, so that was progress. The cattledog managed to wheel sharply, narrowly avoiding a horn to his ribs. He felt the air rush by him, a close call. The bull was snorting excitedly at Rooster's heels now and the mottled canine could feel the hot steam from his snorts on his backside. The cattledog now set the pace, leading the charging herd to the right, down a sloping hill that lead to a serene looking pond. His earlier dread and confusion was lifted, because he could use the water's edge to his advantage.Rooster gave it everything he had and sprinted wildly, heading straight for the pond with herd on his tail. Once the water's edge was almost upon them, Rooster peeled out an abrupt U-turn and sprinted down the side of the herd. The bull was confused by this sudden change of direction and alarmed by the upcoming water and tried to wheel sharply himself, but failed, his hooves driving into the water and slowing the rate of speed at which the herd had been rushing.
Now that he was at the back, Rooster forced the cows bringing up the rear to move forward, pushing them all deeper into the water. The bull no longer had command was snorting wildly, splashing through the pond to try and regain authority. Back, left, right... Rooster snapped and barked, pushing the bison deeper into the pond until the stampede was over.Once the last bison was half-way submerged in the pond, the mottled dog beat a hasty retreat, using the last of his energy to put a good mile or so between him and the bison, now bleating in confusion as they waded through the water. Convinced of his safety, Rooster found a thick cluster of timothy grass to collapse in, his body worn out and used. A gentle foam had formed as his muzzle, but he was panting too hard to lick it clean. He was on his side, a heap of heat and throbbing muscles, an audible rasp of rapid pants being the only noise he made. The grass was surprisingly cool, and for a moment Rooster forgot about the troublemaker.Though it had been strenuous work, Rooster felt alive. Oh, the look was in her eyes. You never know what might be found there. ● ● ● ● but she was dancing all in time, the moves she made so fine, like the music that surrounds her. The forest had its attractions, ones that were hard to ignore if you were made up of primal stuff. The shimmering sunlight penetrated the leafy canopy and a dappled path was laid out for the Irish setter, her brown eyes delighting in the mosaic it seemed to paint. Her pace was unhurried and calm and she was merely enjoying the scenery. Juniper felt a slight complaint from her stomach, but hadn't she just eaten not three hours ago? A tasty squirrel she had managed to catch off-guard, stuffing his fat gray body with a bumper crop of summer-toned acorns? It wasn't the result of true hunger, but a light scent of fresh-kill was lingering in the soft breeze. It caught the red and white dog's attention, her ears perking and nose twitching slightly. She was good-natured, so she did not see this as an opportunity to take from another. It only meant she was not alone out here. She just hoped the hunter was of her own kind and not ill-tempered. She did not mesh well with those who were quick to anger or easy to upset. They made her a nervous wreck, filling her with their red and black sparks of negativity. But there didn't seem to anything negative pervading the air. It was simply a mysterious sort of attraction, a gentle pull to seek out who was enjoying a pleasant picnic in the forest. Cautiously Juniper proceeded, her paw steps lightly padding through the emerald grasses. Her tail was swaying gently, carried low to exhibit that she was merely a friendly face. The female form came slowly into her a view, a serene creature grappling a rabbit as she took pleasure in relieving the lifeless body of its precious nutrition. The setter paused, maintaining a respectable distance. With a little flutter of nervousness in her stomach, Juniper managed to form a gentle smile across her lips as she gave an announcing hail,"Hello!" She tried to sound more happy than anything else, but it was hard to miss that slightly waver of uncertainty. She was a social butterfly at heart, but on initial meeting Junie could be quite hesitant. Her eyes lingered on the face of the strange female and Juniper followed the other's gaze, which was oriented to a pine tree. It was a curious site, to see a pine tree robbed of its protective covering. The soft, white wood beneath was splintered around the edges, but on the inside it appeared as if something had tried to carve a shape. It was interesting to see such a thing. It was natural for animals to sharpen claws or mark their territory by stripping bark, but this tree seemed to be deliberately used, a canvas by an artist.Juniper did not wait for a response before the question tumbled from her mouth,"Wow, that is interesting. Did you make that?"ravelin525 notes: Oh, such an interesting tree c: MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

“I’ve always followed my father’s advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble.”- John Wayne "Sometimes, a loner notices these things and sits on it for awhile. And it doesn't sit comfortably, either, because you don't know if you wanna get involved or not. There's too many dangers out here in our new world, too many lawless dogs and other creatures that might just take this newfound freedom a little too far. Freedom is fine and all, but when you take that freedom to hurt others, that's when loners like me gotta step in and remind y'all there's a way to balance the world. With freedom, comes great responsibility. The land is almost clear of humans, and while I may have been considered a pet by some in my old life, I'm here to tell ya know I was raised by a human man who taught me to do good, to see good, and keep the peace whenever I could. I treat others how I want to be treated and I don't infringe on the freedoms of others, lest those freedoms do something uncivil to another living creature of our standing. I was taught not to steal, not to attack the weak or take advantage, I was taught to survive but to do so with morals in my heart and thoughts in my head. I work with others, because numbers are greatest when combined, especially when faced with ever-present dangers of this place we call home. Wolves, coyotes, weather, humans, disease...they come in waves and I don't wanna see anyone face those kinds of things by their lonesome, do you?To build a community like the one we had before, we need to stand together, not engage each other in senseless arguments, fights, and lawless activities. There's no sense in attacking each other, no sense in stealin', when the land and surrounding areas have more than enough to share. We need to respect the land, respect the dangers, and respect each other. But I do abide by the old saying that if you do evil, it is all you shall receive. I want to put a stop to this chaos we are creating by over-using over freedoms, to keep those who might not agree with our way from hurting us. We will be The Rangers, the peacekeepers. We will help those in need, shelter those who need us, and fight only when evil does not back down. We will travel, gathering those who might agree with us and want to help. Those who want to rise up and create a place where we can live unbothered lives, a place where we don't have to struggle to stay alive alone. A sanctuary, a place to give back purpose, a group of dogs all joined by the same idea: Give, and you shall receive. Where everyone pulls their weight for the good of the group and where everyone's voice matters and their opinions be heard.I ain't much of a leader, I won't lie to you. But I don't want to see those around me fall into trouble with no one around to help them because I chose to lead a selfish life. I don't desire power or control, I only want to see my brothers and sisters grow around me. I don't want to see others ripped apart by wolves, or tormented by ill-tempered humans, or even see another dog beat up on his own kind just because they are different or weaker. I don't wanna see us pilferin' or strugglin' because of our pride. I wanna see some spine, some true grit. I want to see bravery, kindness, and helpfulness. I don't want to ridicule the weak or punish the slow. I want to do right in this world. Sometimes doing good and doing the right thing aren't always pretty, either. We won't make no trouble, but we don't take no trouble from those who would want to take advantage, to harm, or otherwise try and disrupt the harmony in which we seek to live. The lawbreakers best steer clear, because as a democracy we have made our laws and we stick by our guns. Those who do not abide by our rules in our land will be subject to trial and jury, to be punished fairly and firmly by their peers based on the heinous nature of their crime. Our jail is not a jail, but set of small cabins based at the foot of the Araks. If your offense is less than murder, we treat you fairly but make you work your sentence. We are just and abuse no power and mean what we say. Once you pay your sentence in sweat to the community, we set you free, hopefully having shown you what hard work and help can do for the heart. We live in the Vineyard Mansion, where we hope to make wine like the humans once did. We don't do it for the monopoly or disorderly drunkenness, but so that we may have a trade for ourselves. We make wine through slow fermentation and are willing to trade it for other goods we lack, like medicines or furnishings. We also collect herbs to make medicine and try to raise game from the wild Prairie like bison, quail, and rabbit. We try and make hides and crafts. We do a little of this, a little of that. We just try to go on living, to work, and to help. We live off the land and make use of what we got. But that's my offer, take it or leave it. I'd love to have others who want to help like me, but if our way of living don't sit right with you, just make sure you go live your life away from our land, lest you be subject to our laws. We don't mind visitors to our community, but we expect the law of our land be kept."- RoosterABOUT THE RANGERS: The Rangers are a pack/community centered around the thought that survival is best not done alone. The Rangers want to uphold the standard of a functioning community and providing everyone, no matter their creed or history, with a contributing role in the community. The Rangers want to do good and keep the peace, so they have formed a set of laws and established a productive trader/marketplace type way of life to provide jobs and importance to all kinds of canines. They don't turn anyway away and value everyone but use a law enforcement body of elected officials to enforce the laws created by the community. The use a democracy to vote on issues, elect Regulators, and the whole community makes decisions together. They are very family-oriented, very orderly, and very peaceful.
Will you join them?

TRADES- A list of the current trades being utilized by The Rangers. Trades are very flexible and are usually assigned to your character by YOU upon submitting a joining application. Any Trade can be carried out as long is it run by ripple , if you don't find the trade you want listed below!COMMON TRADES WINEMAKERS- Sell bottled wine from the Chateau Cellar. They usually trade wines for high items like food and medicine or other items of similar value. Winemakers usually divide up profits 50/50 with the community. Winemakers actually ferment the grapes and reuse bottles through a recycling program for a discount on your next wine purchase!ROCK SELLERS- Sell gemstones, fossils, and other unique looking rocks found in Graycott. Their wares are usually visually appealing and don't provide a functional value. But Rock Sellers are excellent source of coal and flint, which are functional and used for fire. Rock sellers divide up profits 70/30 with the community.HIDE MAKERS- Sell furs and hides bartered from the hunters. They take and try to cure these hides to be sold as warm furnishings for bedding. They also collect blankets from human dwellings to sell and trade. Hunters are usually given a 25% stake in the trade. The rest of the split with the community is 40/35.PLANT BARTERERS- Trade and sell herbs/plants beneficial for use as medicines. Plant barterers usually work in conjunction with gardeners to gain their wares and gardeners are given a 25% stake in the trade. The rest of the split is 40/35. CURED MEAT SELLERS- Cured meat sellers don't actually profit from their sales; the sun-cured and salt cured meats are usually excess stores from the community food pool and traded/sold at the market for additional revenue. Anyone can work the Cured Meat Seller booth. 100% goes to community revenue.HUMAN TRINKET BARTERS- Collect and trade/sell unique human wares that are not functional, although it depends on the items! Common items include porcelain plates, necklaces, trinkets, baubles...anything thought-provoking and attractive! Sometimes you get lucky and might find a flashlight with still working batteries... Human Trinket Barters also do a 50/50 split with the community.
ATTORNEY CONSULTATION- Usually reserved for members of The Rangers, those needing defense in criminal or civil courts, since The Rangers use this system to deal with law breakers. Sometimes Attorney's offer good 'legal' advice, but beware! Attorneys are completely independent...They can charge what they like and don't have to divide up profits with the community. Make sure you discuss terms and agreements...and have a witness to the contract! 100% revenue goes solely to attorneys.MARKET So if the trades/market information seems a little confusing, here is a breakdown of what the Cattle Pen Market is all about!
WHEN ROLEPLAYING AS A TRADER: All Traders have a makeshift stand on the Prairie where you can roleplay yourself dickering and bartering with other characters for goods! An example is: If you really want a human cameo necklace for your mate and you sell wine, you could trade with Human Trinket Barters for one or trade with other characters who aren't even apart of The Rangers, if they so happen to have one. But don't forget, you must also collect profits for the community as well! So if you have your cameo, the next thing you trade a bottle of wine for goes to the community 'revenue'. Definitions to Work the Market Revenue- Anything that can be collected/stored for the community. This includes things like food, ropes, tools, medicines not found on Ranger land, etc. Practically anything a Trader may think useful or seeks to gain for themselves or the community. A Trader makes the decision on what to dicker for, but must use their judgement. A cameo necklace for your mate is great, but don't forget to donate something to the community as well! If you want some matches or if a stranger happens to have a functional lantern, that'd be a great trade to benefit the community! There are no set rules on what defines revenue, so you have the freedom to plot with others and get creative! Revenue is basically defined as item for item, good for good, or service for service. Revenue/Revenue- Usually the first number in the division of assets is what the Trader gets to keep! The second number is what is used to benefit the community. Example: If you are a Plant Vendor and you have traded five different medicinal herbs for the following items: A medium sized dog harness, a bottle of aspirin, a gold watch, one freshly killed pheasant, and a raven feather...Then the revenue you owe to the community is 2:2, but don't forget the gardeners! They have a 25% stake, so they are owed an item for supplying your wares. So of the five items you traded for, two are yours to keep, two get donated to the community, and the last item is to go to the Gardeners. Make sense? We sure hope so! But don't sweat it- nobody will police you. But OCC rewards are promised if you manage to make ICC revenue for The Rangers! MARKET RULES Everyone is welcome to the market! You don't need to be apart of The Rangers! If you're a loner who needs a meal and you found something not of use to you like rope or garden trowel, take it down to the market and haggle! In another pack/gang/organization and need medicine or matches? Bring something to trade and jump right in. The Rangers are usually a pleasant bunch, but don't bring something like an old, torn up sock to trade for something like a whole rabbit skin. The Traders take trades/sales by discretion! 1. Nothing of contraband is to be taken as payment for trade: poisons, weapons, illicit drugs. These things are not to be sold at market either. 2. A Trader has the right to refuse a barter if the Trader feels like the profits aren't equal or above. (Remember our torn, dirty sock example?) 3. No fighting or violence is allowed at market. Law Enforcement is stationed frequently to keep the peace. Those who are not in The Rangers are subject to Ranger law upon entering the market and could be arrested for misconduct. 4. Payment is due immediately upon transaction. 5. Stealing in the Market is punishable by Ranger law if caught and convicted. After serving the appropriate sentence (Found in Rules section of the Rangers), you may be banned from the Market indefinitely. 6. Other canines are not considered trade items. Souls aren't cargo and it is illegal to trade items for canines in the Market. 7. Any Traders caught selling/trading banned items may stripped of their title and banned from the Market if caught and convicted. 8. The Market opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. After hours selling is frowned upon and may put you under suspicion of black market trading. 9. Pups around six months of age need to preferably be accompanied by a parent. 10. Traders must keep a professional, friendly atmosphere, and accept all who come by their stands. While they take revenue at their discretion, they may not refuse service to anyone with ample payment. HOW IT WORKS
The Rangers pick their hierarchy based on a democratic voting system. Rooster, the founder, decided this would be the best way to keep peace among the members of the community and give them a say in how things are done. Rooster doesn't believe in one ruler to lead them all, answering and obeying orders of a single dog until their death or someone usurps them. The democracy in the town brings everyone together so that decisions can be made as a whole. Positions are earned and rewarded to those who are outstanding in the community and have developed a good audience from the public by demonstrating moral and ethical character and general selflessness and sacrifice for the well-being of others. This keeps power struggles to a minimum and conflict down within The Rangers.ELECTIONS Elections are held every 3 OCC months. The current Mayor will call a town meeting, in which attendance is mandatory if you want voice heard or if you would like to be considered for a nomination. Once the current Mayor calls the meeting to order for elections, then nominations are taken from the group. One can nominate another or they can nominate themselves. Re-elections are common if you have made a positive impact on the community! All high-ranking positions in the town and in law enforcement are up for nomination. Sheriff, Deputy, Captain, Lieutenant, Mayor, Assistant Mayor....any position in which only a single dog serves under. This distributes and redistributes power within the community. If you are not re-elected or elected for a position, then you have the ability to shift your role in the community. EX: Most officers in law enforcement go back and become CLASS II Regulators or Rangers. Most town officials become Traders, Attorneys, or Citizens. Once nominations have been gathered, then the community is given one week of ICC time to organize and come up with a campaign, in which they hold public forums for questions, to deliver their speech, and try to win the votes of the community. They also select a symbol for voting, which is used to mark a ballad and represent that unique candidate. An example is: a paw print or simple number or symbol that the voters can recreate on their own using cloth and simple ink. After the week is up, the Mayor calls another meeting, in which voting takes place. Every voter may cast a vote for each position and do so all at the same time. Every candidate will sport a unique symbol for every position and no two symbols will be alike to avoid confusion. *In the event only one canine is nominated for a position, then they win the position by default. Canines cannot be nominated for more than a single position. This keeps voting neat and tidy, so try and pick the position you want. Example: You cannot run for both Mayor or Sheriff and you cannot run for both Sheriff and Deputy. -In the event there are no retired canines to collect ballads, the citizens and Regulators will act in their stead. The voting is completely anonymous. It takes place on the very first floor of the Chateau and dogs enter the Mayor's office where cloth/paper and ink are available. They place their candidates' symbols in ink on the paper and fold it up. Afterwards, they hand it to the ballad collectors on site. It is a punishable offense for looking at the ballads and breaking anonymity of a voter. If caught, anyone collecting ballads could be fined and sentenced to time in the Lodges. Once all ballads have been collected, they are then taken to the Mayor who calls together a final meeting. At this meeting, the ballads are read and the reading witnessed before the community. Tallies are kept by the Mayor for each position and those with the highest tallies win that position! **Voting can be roleplayed ICC and is encouraged, but polls will be placed in The Rangers subboards once election time rolls around. It is then you can send your OCC votes for ICC characters to a created set of polls that can be found on the subboard and this is the same for nominations. ICC nominations are great, but you can also nominate characters by sending their names and position you want to see them in to ripple . Once I have all nominations, I will then create the polls. It will be up for one week of OCC time to correspond to ICC time, and the board in which the polls are located will be password protected so that only members who have a character in The Rangers can vote. ripple will send the password to the board to all members with characters in The Rangers. A poll for each position will be created and then you can cast your votes!
***DISCLAIMER: While all positions within The Rangers are based on a democracy of voting and power/leadership may shift, ripple reserves all rights to the group and is to be consulted on major plots that new leadership may bring, whether it be a crooked Sheriff or embezzling Mayor, that might shift the dynamic and plot-flow of the community. Rooster is serving currently as Sheriff/Alpha, but in the event he is not voted in again, Rooster is still an integral part of the community and ripple will still be involved in the major maintenance, organization, and roleplay of the group. New leadership is a great thing, but those who may be elected as Sheriff or Mayor must keep Ripple in the loop about group happenings and work in conjunction with her. Ripple isn't afraid of a little turmoil or drama, but please run by new ideas for the group leadership by her first and gain her approval for plot ideas concerning the livelihood, well being, and status of The Rangers! LAW ENFORCEMENT SHERIFF: The leader, the one who oversees that the rest of the law enforcement hierarchy are abiding by the law themselves and keeps order among them. The Sheriff is head among the enforcers and answers only to the Mayor of The Ranger's community, but both are of equal ranking and work closely together for the community. Duties: The Sheriff oversees the day-to-day training of all members of the law enforcement community and making sure community standards are upheld. The Sheriff is also responsible for escorting prisoners to and from the Lodges and attending court. The Sheriff organizes the patrols, stations, and protection of the Market on a daily basis. He investigates crimes and accusations and is commander of all on scene, holding rank.
DEPUTY: The second-in-command in the law enforcement section and carries out similar duties to the Sheriff, but the deputy does not have the freedom to organize patrols or stations unless otherwise authorized by the Sheriff. The Deputy may serve in the courts and escort prisoners under the Sheriff's word. The Deputy is the support to the Sheriff and is responsible for organizing the protection of the community home. The Deputy usually maintains a station on the grounds of the Chateau.
CAPTAIN: Third-in-command in the law enforcement section. The Captain is responsible for training new recruits and educating the public and law enforcement alike on the laws of the community. The Captain does not usually appear in court unless the Captain has been named a witness. The Captain is responsible for investigating petty crimes within the community and takes public complaints for the Sheriff. The Captain is responsible for maintaining the Regulators and is often stationed to guard the Lodges, where prisoners are kept.
LIEUTENANT: Fourth-in-command and responsible for settling legal disputes within the community, usually disputes that are mild in nature and need only a mediator to settle. The Lieutenant also serves as public defender. The Lieutenant usually assists the Captain with their duties and are often shared. The Lieutenant is responsible for overseeing Rangers.
REGULATORS CLASS II: Normal officers responsible for carrying out duties, patrols, and stations assigned to them by the Sheriff and Deputy. Class II are seasoned, experienced Regulators and are often responsible for training Class I regulators in the field, using a partner system. CLASS I: Newly-recruited Regulators that are still under-going training by Class II Regulators. These are the rookies, the newbies. Most Class I Regulators are placed under a probational period until cleared by their Class II Regulator partners as competent and even-tempered for the job. They are promoted to Class II once declared experienced and trusted by the Deputy or Sheriff.
*All ranks above this point have the authority to make arrests.
RANGERS: Rangers do not carry the ability to make arrests, but they are essential to the community by carrying out territory patrols. They bring in new members to the community and keep check of territory resources and make their reports to the Lieutenant. Rangers also scope out territory beyond the homeland and look for dogs who are in need of assistance.THE COMMUNITY.Mayor: The face the community looks up to and the overseer of the business aspect of the community who keeps track of revenue, supplies had, supplies needed, and uses diplomacy to solve community issues. The Mayor is responsible for conducting meetings, organizing community events, and preserving the laws of the land by setting an example for the members. The Mayor deals directly with outside parties with whom The Rangers will trade or otherwise do business with. The Mayor keeps a check on the Law Enforcement side while Law Enforcement keeps a check on the Mayor, creating a balance of power between the two factions of the community.
Assistant Mayor: The right-hand to the Mayor who has similar responsibilities while also providing great counsel to the Mayor. The Assistant Mayor is charged with making sure the community is aware of town meetings and are attending certain community events that the Mayor has organized. The Assistant Mayor is also conditioned and poised to take the current Mayor's place should anything happen and while act as Mayor until an election can be held.
Traders: Any dog have the desire to contribute their works to the Market for the benefit of the community. The Traders often exchange goods among the community, each other, and with outside parties at the Market. Traders often specialize in a specific area and sells/trades those goods as such. Any trade is welcomed in The Rangers, but here are the current common trades: Rock Collectors, Winemakers, Hide Sellers, Human Trinket Barters, Plant Vendors, Attorney Consultations, Cured Meat Sellers.
Gardeners: Dogs who enjoy working in the outdoors and have a penchant for physical labor. Gardeners tend to the vineyard and wildflower/food plants that grow on the Chateau's property. They dig/harvest plants and tend to the plants so that they will return again in the future (watering, weeding, fertilizing, etc). The Gardeners often exchange plants with the Traders, but the Gardeners are allowed to take as many food plants as they want for working in the Garden. They are also entitled to a free bottle of wine at the end of every week as payment for collecting grapes for the Winemakers.
Healers: Dogs who utilize the wild plants that grow in the garden to tend to the needs of the sick and the injured. They often make medicines, distribute treatments, and care for the ill/injured.
Market Manager: The Market Manager is a single position and is responsible for making sure that no illegal goods are being sold on the premises. Illegal goods include weaponry, illicit drugs, and poisons. The Market Managers are also responsible for overseeing the daily intake of prey by hunters. Hunters: Members of the community who specialize in collecting food for the community. Hunters are free to organize themselves as a unit or single and alone. Hunters are allowed to eat first and often trade hides to the Traders for wine and other items that make them happy. Hunters report their catches to the Market Manager, to make sure that no game is being smuggled or hoarded from the community.
Citizens: Citizens are members of the community who have randomly assorted tasks to help contribute to the community. Many of these tasks are: working at the barn taking care of animals being kept to raise for food and needed items. Many repairs to the property are done by citizens who are capable and citizens often help healers by gathering things like rags, water, and cobwebs. They also help the hunters by hauling in game. Citizens offer their help when needed and often keep the Chateau clean as well. Citizens are dogs who are still physically equipped but need light work to accommodate themselves.
Retired (Town Counsel): Retired members of the community are dogs who cannot contribute physically to the community and are beyond 10 years of age, but can offer advice to the Mayor via town meetings. They share their wisdom and often lead elections. They are responsible for collecting ballads, taking nominations, and making sure that community involvement is number one at meetings. These are your political canines and they can often be found working community events.
Attorneys: While the Lieutenant serves as default public defender, Attorneys are often coveted in The Rangers. Attorneys are hired by individuals facing court/trial and can charge whatever fees they like within reason, if they do not like the public defender appointed to their case. Attorneys are skilled with words, clever, and able to comprehend the law. Attorneys can be independent or work together and set up offices within the Chateau. The offer consultations and must keep client-attorney privilege. Attorneys have little regulation...but this makes them vulnerable to scrutiny by Law Enforcement.

“I’ve always followed my father’s advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble.”- John Wayne JOINING To join The Rangers, a joining thread must made on The Rangers' territory, which you can find on the Graycott Prairie, the Vineyard, and the Arack Mountains. Joining threads need to be denoted as such in the thread heading. Any member of the community can accept another character into the organization, but oftentimes this ICC responsibility is put on Rangers, who patrol the territory and seek out canines who need refuge. Below you will find the joining application. Please read the pack rules and see if your character might be a great fit! Once you've done that, you are free to join! Put up a joining thread and fill out the application below. Tag ripple at the end of the application so you can be accepted and added to the ranks!

“Words are what men live by…words they say and mean..”- John Wayne The LAW OF THE LAND X. This our home, our community. A refuge and a haven. There is to be no physical confrontation. We don't fight with our teeth here. We talk with our words and compromise as such.
X. There will be no stealing from each other. We share and we trade, we come to mutual agreements. We also do not steal from others of our kind and we shall barter and trade services/goods for the things we require.
X. We do not force others to do anything against their will. Do nothing unto others that you wouldn't done unto you. Respect the personal space of all those in our pack.
X. We take in all forms of dogs, and nobody is seen as worthless or weak. We take care of those who needs us, we provide for those who can't provide for themselves. We turn nobody away who needs to be lent a hand.
X. As apart of this community, you must work and earn your keep. Everyone is to work a trade and find satisfaction in a daily purpose. Everybody must contribute to the best of their abilities.
X. Murder is the highest offense, punishable by death with a public viewing. We are a peaceful community, but to kill another of our kind is to show you are unfit to ever be a functional part of the community.
X. We take pride in the children we have put love and effort into raising. Children are never to be punished physically, with an adult's teeth. To hurt a child is a great offense and not taken lightly here.
X. The Regulators are to be respected and obeyed at all times. They have orders, rules, and standards to protect the community and won't abuse power.
X. While those in the community may vote in the democracy, those convicted of 3rd and 4th Degree Crimes may not vote in any election. CRIMES AND CONVICTIONS 1ST DEGREE CRIMES
Stealing- If convicted of stealing, violators may face up to 2 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge. During this time, violators are made to to work in the vineyard hauling grapes for the gardeners and hauling game for the Hunters. Fighting- If convicted of assault and battery, violators may face up to 1 week of ICC time in the Lodge. During this time, violators are kept in solitary confinement. They are not allowed out of the Lodge or beyond the Lodge grounds until their sentences are up.
Disrespecting Law Enforcement-If convicted of refusal to cooperate with any Law Enforcement branch, physical violence against LE, or otherwise dismissing the LE can lead up to 3 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge. During this time, convicts may face extreme physical labor at the Lodges, doing repairs and taking orders. The Mountains are a harsh environment to work in and LE are allowed to make convicts who have committed this crime undergo 'exercises' in which physical activity is repeated until exhausted.
2ND DEGREE CRIMES Discrimination- If any member of The Rangers is caught turning down a member due to some personal vendetta, a discrimination (physical or not), or having no valid reason for accepting another into the community, it can warrant up to 3 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge. Showing discourteous, vile, or ill-tempered treatment to anyone wanting refuge is frowned upon severely. This holds the same punishment as 1st Degree Disrespecting of LE, but will cause you to lose Trader, Gardener, LE ranks, or Community ranks and you will be demoted to Citizen rank and unable to hold a specific job. Refusal to Contribute- If any member refuses to contribute to the community, then committing this crime is punishable by 3 weeks in the Lodge and being assigned to hard physical labor. After you have served your sentence, then you will be exiled from the community.
3RD DEGREE CRIMES Physical violence against a minor- If any adult member of The Rangers is caught and convicted of child abuse, they will spend 4 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge in solitary confinement. After they have served their sentence, they will be exiled from the community. Abusing Power in Position- Those who hold high ranking positions in the community who are convicted of abusing their power will serve 4 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge serving the community through physical labor. Once the sentence is up, you are not exiled from the community, but stripped off all LE and Community rank. You will be a Citizen and only allowed to contribute through that role. A second conviction of APP or Refusing to work as Citizen will result in exile
. 4TH DEGREE CRIMES Rape or Forced Conduct- Any member who advances upon another with intention to hurt them sexually or by forcing them by threat of injury or abuse and convicted will serve 5 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge in solitary confinement and working exhaustion exercises. After your sentencing is up, you will be exiled from the community. Premeditated/Malicious Murder- Any member who kills another by any means other than justifiable self-defense (as determined by a court) or who has helped another commit and meditate murder will serve 1 week of ICC time in the Lodge in complete isolation. After serving a week of confinement, the convicted shall be executed by public viewing in a manner determined by the court.
JUVENILE CRIMES Juveniles under the age of 1 year on not subjected to the same sentences as adults who are tried and convicted. Juveniles will serve terms/conditions/labor based on the nature of the crime as decided by a judge. Juveniles who commit malicious murder or are convicted of meditated murder shall serve a sentence of up to 7 weeks of ICC time in the Lodge performing daily chores and exhaustive exercises. After their sentences are up, the convicted Juveniles are placed on probation for 1 year, in which they report to the Sheriff.

Oh, the look was in her eyes. You never know what might be found there. ● ● ● ● but she was dancing all in time, the moves she made so fine, like the music that surrounds her. She felt completely stupid, so much so, that her tail stopped wagging and dropped between her legs, slightly curling under. It was bad enough to feel the burning of one's own mistakes, but to add insult to injury, it hurt so much have a bright flicker of hope that's extinguished in the blink of an eye. A feeling of despair was curling around her heart and for one horrifying moment, Juniper thought she was going to cry.But she couldn't cry! She was faced with another problem on top of all her others and that was that she hadn't found Bramble, but a stranger. A strange guy who she didn't know anything about and was alone with. He was backing away from the staircase and Juniper was immediately picking up on his atmosphere. There was a little hesitation in him, a little of his own embarrassment? Did have to do with the staircase? But he was rapidly changing again, seeming confident and interested in her, inquisitive and charming.Juniper felt her vibrant mood shift into one of shyness, a reserve creeping up. She felt her brown eyes sliding downward, flitting here and there. He was speaking to her, trying to ease her. Little did this red and white dog know, Juniper wasn't very easy to soothe at first. She felt a tiny tremor in her legs, an anxiety creeping up. It was hard to be social, when one felt so much from others."I'm sorry myself...I didn't realize...You're shorter than I am. Bramble. He's tall," she muttered, feeling impossibly silly. She felt her skin growing hot. It kind of helped that the strange guy was handsome, though, but it also added to her shyness. His offer to help horrified her. She wasn't used to such kindness, not since she was much younger. "Uh, thanks...They. Well, look like me. Except, Bramble he's tall." Great job, Junie. Just keep stumbling over the same old stuff. That's the way to make an impression, don't you think? She winced a little, her own monologue scolding her for her bumbling. "And well...My mom and sister look like me..Pretty much alike." She swallowed a dry lump in her throat, coughed a little. Her brown eyes finally found their way to the stranger's face, and now that he wasn't facing away from her, she wondered how in the world she thought he was Bramble. He wasn't a setter like her or her family, but some sort of retriever? Or a toller? Juniper felt a shy smile touch her mouth. Boy, he sure wasn't Bramble. Bramble might have been her brother, but this guy was much more interesting.
"I'm Junie. Uh, June. Wait, no," she huffed nervously,"Juniper. You can call me June, or Junie, if you want..." She was stammering again.
Smooth, Junie. Smooth.

"So if you see me walkin’ all alone, Don’t look back, I’m just on my way back home." He hadn't realized he was feeling slightly tensed, worried that her sheepish demeanor might quickly dissolve into anger at his insistence. The little mixed breed was much too soft to withstand what cruelties life could deal her and the cattledog recognized this. He didn't exactly pity her, because that would be an insult. But he wanted to care for her, to right the wrongs that had already scarred her thus far. He felt sympathy and when Rooster felt it, he had to act on it.
It came as a relief when she seemed find a tiny amount of ease with his words, getting past his intial abruptness and recognizing his intentions as somewhat good. He hoped she would trust him, but he knew that trust was a very slippery thing to gain purchase on. He would have to tread carefully with her and exhibit patience. Without it, he would only frighten her more and that might actually send her into deeper danger. But the golden eyes of the mottled dog caught that flickering ear and the way she acted when he had mentioned something to drink. It reassured him that he might still be able to connect with her, to establish some sort of mutual ground where he would help and not hurt.
Her soft voice was so low Rooster leaned in ever-so slightly to listen better, his muzzle a little nearer. Dharma. Even her name had a gentleness to it, the way it just bounced lightly across the tongue. He nodded, more for himself than for her, registering her not just as a face, but a name. He smiled lightly, tried to appear reassuring...and realized that would do no good. He could only communicate with her through tone, so he waited politely for her to keep going, to keep talking.
He did grunt softly in reply to her thanks, thinking that she needn't do such a thing. The ex-ranch dog thought of it as duty, but that duty was not without heart and soul. He felt a slight tingle of embarrassment at this recognition but it left him feeling a little humbled. It was good to help others. Dharma, the little golden dog, gestured to herself and told him that travelling was hard. Rooster thought this over, brow crinkling. He could help her, support her body with his. He had seen a little pond, hadn't he? He didn't think it was far from this edge of the prairie, and if they took it slow, he could have her there in about fifteen minutes.
He was thinking these things through and didn't notice when the delicate female pulled herself up, using her reserve of energy to sit up properly. He didn't notice that she had swung around to get a better scent of him until their noses made a jolting impact, shocking Rooster out of his brainstorm. He was surprised by the connection and actually a sneezed as she pulled away, her reaction like he had been full of static electricity and given her zap.
He sneezed again, barely hearing her apology before he broke out laughing. It was not an unkind laugh, but one full of hearty enthusiasm. The red and white cattledog chuckled, letting the amusement die off before speaking in a tone of approval,"Now that's a greetin'. Don't you apologize for anything." He watched as she buried her face in her paws, but this time Rooster was having none of it. He wasn't forceful, but carefully he poked her with his nose, encouraging her back up."Now don't go all bashful on me, Dharma. I made a promise to get you some water, didn't I? I ain't gonna let a little nose smack turn me off that idea, now I am?" He was full of rhetoric, ol' Rooster. "You are more than welcome for my intervention on those nasty scavengers, but you call help repay me by letting me escort you to that pond over the hill." He let his freshly bumped nose scent deeply, picking up the faintest hint of water beyond the lush grasses at the top of a sloping knoll. "Now I know you don't feel well, but if you have the courage, I'll more than gladly lend you my shoulder. That way you don't have to put as much weight on those tired feet. We can take all the breaks you need and we could talk if you like." He poked her again, gently pushing his nose into the side of her shoulder. "And if you find I still make you nervous, I could tell you all about me. Ain't no secrets. No dark past. Just a half-decent guy wandering the prairie. Lost my master to an accident and I've been lonesome ever since. Might be nice to talk?" This time the question wasn't rhetorical. It was simply a way to try and help her feel better about his presence. And perhaps it would be nice to talk again, even though Rooster was pretty solitary. Not that he didn't enjoy company, but he usually didn't go looking for it. Usually it found him.And with Rooster, that was A-okay. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRPHY 2.0
